This book serves as an excellent introduction to North Korea and Kim Jong Il himself. It is written from his perspective and the author strikes a good balance of humor, tragedy and brutality. This could have easily gone horribly wrong in writing from the perspective of the oppressor. However, Malice's ghostwriting talents serve him well.The book's only drawback is the humor sometimes falls flat and some of the situations aren't as compelling or engaging as others. The middle arc before the famine comes to mind. There are also several grammatical errors in this book. While not crippling, it is distracting enough to wonder as to the name of the sloppy editor.The ending is also a rather sudden shift in tone and felt as if the author himself was speaking and hence a bit fourth wall. While it had the intended heartbreaking impact on me, I wonder if it may not have worked better as an epilogue written by Malice as biographer.Overall highly recommended.
